Oh Katy One Size Pocket Cloth Diaper Statistical Review

In this post, we are going to look through the responses to the Pocket Diapers survey and see what the respondents had to say about the Oh Katy One Size Pocket Diaper. For this particular diaper, there were 45 survey responses. I am going to sort these responses by Baby Type and by different aspects of the diaper’s performance.

Main Findings

The diaper performed best on Skinny Babies; however, it is worth noting that it performed quite similarly on all baby types. The diaper performed best as a nap diaper (with additional insert) and as something people would recommend to a friend. It did not perform as well as a night diaper.  The diaper performed quite similarly to all pocket diapers when we look at the averages; however, it did perform significantly lower as a night diaper and slightly below average in fit. Respondents did like that it is soft against the baby’s skin and easy to stuff.

Diaper Features

This is a one size diaper, which means it is meant to fit the baby from birth to potty training.

You adjust the sizing using the rows of snaps in the front.

SMALLEST setting:

LARGEST setting:

The outside of the diaper is made out of a waterproof TPU fabric

The diaper comes with snap closures

The diaper also includes snaps that can overlap, which allows you to get a trim fit on a skinny waist. You can also roll up a messy diaper and snap it shut with these to help trap in stink.

The inside is topped with a stay dry micro fleece

The pocket opening is in the front of the diaper. You stuff this area with an insert to get the absorbency you need.

The diaper comes with 2 microfiber inserts. One is a one size insert that you can snap down to different settings. The second insert can be used in a newborn diaper or stacked on top of the one size insert for night use.

Comments from Survey Respondents

I do not like having to stuff the insert in the front

Not a long-term use diaper for those with a high rise. We are already completely unsnapped at 7 months.

Love the additional hip snaps that definitely prevent wing droop

I have to double stuff the diaper at all times. The diaper worked great when my kids were younger, but now that they are bigger, they leak all the time. I have done everything recommended to keep this from happening, and nothing works.

These would be great for an average sized kid, but unfortunately my girl is SUPER long – its entirely unsnapped and probably won’t fit her too much longer.

I LOVE how soft and gentle these diapers are! I WILL be getting a few as baby shower gifts for friends.

I’m not sure that these diapers would hold my little one’s nighttime pee. I have liked my other two nighttime choices, so I’ve never tried it. I would say my baby is an average wetter…not a heavy one. I have found them to be similar to Kawaii original square tab diapers. So, when considering purchasing more, cost makes me more inclined to choose Kawaii. But I have really liked them and am glad to have them in my stash.

My son had tiny thighs from birth but these fit. He was at 7lbs 2oz and it fit without leaks. I measured his thighs at 4weeks they were 5.75 inches, I love these diapers. So far they are the only OS diaper in our stash that fits without leaks

The only real issue I have with it is that it stuffs in the front…not idea for a little boy. Also not as absorbent as I would have liked.

This diaper wicks pretty bad. That is why I gave it the low score. Too bad, because the colors are awesome.

Dislike the front pocket for boys since I’m always touching wet part. Also needs a middle rise snap, it pouches out otherwise and then leaks

The colors are great and I love the front pocket opening.

I have a tall baby with a skinny waist, so taller rises are best. Most OS diapers I can still keep on the 2nd setting for my LO, but not this one. I have to have it on the largest setting for her tummy to be covered.

This diaper has extra hip snaps which make the diaper fit better, but also may be more complicated to put on for daycare

Green Diaper Demos and Oh Katy provided this diaper for review, but it did not influence the opinions in this post.

Tara Porter

Tara Porter began using cloth diapers in 2011 when she felt that using disposable diapers was costing too much money. The problem was, a lot of the highly recommended diapers weren’t working for her baby. What she finally discovered was that her baby was skinny and a heavy wetter, and that diapers worked differently for those baby types. Because of her professional work with survey design and statistics, she designed Padded Tush Stats as a way to determine how different cloth diapers worked on different babies.

Tara moved on to other career endeavors in 2014 but can still be found online blogging about health and fitness at Fit Baby Steps.
