Tara & Carolyn’s Top Picks for 2014 – Covers (Part 1)

Between the two of us, we have tested over 200 cloth diapering products. Because of this, we’ve developed some pretty strong opinions on what products have worked for our kids. So in our Top Picks event, we are showing you all of our favorites.

Tara and Carolyn's Top Cloth Diaper Picks

In this post, we are talking about our favorite diaper covers. Today you are going to hear about Tara’s picks and tomorrow you will hear from Carolyn on hers.

Blueberry Capri Diaper Cover

Why I Like It

Tara: I keep shouting it from the rooftops, and I really mean it. Front and back flaps make cloth diapering SO much easier. You heard me rave about this feature of the Capri cover in my review. The Capri is also big enough to fit over fitted diapers and gets trim enough to fit well with my trimmest inserts.

Carolyn: The size 1 Capri cover was one of my very favorite newborn diapers. It fit equally well over prefolds, flats, and fitted diapers, and sized down smaller than any other newborn diaper we tried. With the rise fully extended it was also one of the last newborn diaper covers to fit, which meant we were able to use it for a pretty long time (for a newborn diaper, at least!)

Why I Like It

Tara: This cover is the biggest “bang for the buck” cloth diapering product out there, in my opinion. The cover is inexpensive, but yet it seems to fit over fitteds really well with out being super bulky. It doesn’t have flaps on both sides, so I tend to use this over fitteds rather than with inserts.

Tara Porter

Tara Porter began using cloth diapers in 2011 when she felt that using disposable diapers was costing too much money. The problem was, a lot of the highly recommended diapers weren’t working for her baby. What she finally discovered was that her baby was skinny and a heavy wetter, and that diapers worked differently for those baby types. Because of her professional work with survey design and statistics, she designed Padded Tush Stats as a way to determine how different cloth diapers worked on different babies.

Tara moved on to other career endeavors in 2014 but can still be found online blogging about health and fitness at Fit Baby Steps.
  • Abbey R,

I love love love the Blueberry Capri cover! We have 2 size 2 snaps for our toddler to wear over her fitteds with an extra stay dry insert for our overnight solution and it is the only nighttime solution that has never failed. For our newborn due in Aug. I am wanting to get some more capris! Thanks for the opportunity!

My absolute favorite cover, ever, is the Nicki’s Diapers cover. It’s the only PUL my son hasn’t reacted to (for some reason), it is narrow through the crotch with lots of coverage in the back, it’s sturdy, and has the tuckable flaps and staggered snaps. Best ever.
